False flag attacks are covert operations designed to deceive others into believing that they are being carried out by other entities. The name is derived from the military concept of flying the flag of a country other than one's own (i.e. false colors). A classic example of a false flag operation is Operation Northwoods.
Operation Northwoods
Operation Northwoods was a plan developed by the U.S. Department of Defense in the
early 1960s to create a pretext for a military invasion of Cuba to overpower the Fidel Castro government. One of the plan's
scenarios was to create an incident that looked like a Cuban aircraft attacked and shot down a civilian plane. Another one
involved blowing up a US ship in Guantanamo Bay and blaming Cuba. But the plan was rejected by President John F. Kennedy.
The original documents are readily available on the internet. Gulf of Tonkin Incident
On August 2, 1964, the USS Maddox was allegedly attacked by three North Vietnamese
torpedo boats in the Gulf of Tonkin. Two days later, the National Security Agency claimed that it had monitored preparations
for another attack. For two hours, the Maddox and USS Turner Joy blasted away at North Vietnamese gunboats that turned out
to be non-existent. On the basis of this so-called attack, President Johnson was able to get Congress to authorize a military
response. So began the Vietnam War. A more detailed account is contained in the book Rule by Secrecy. 9/11
The 9-11 Commission concluded that the September 11, 2001 attack on the World Trade Center towers was the work of Middle
Eastern hijackers. Since that time, the Commission's report has been found to be an inaccurate explanation of what really
happened. The United States government was involved in the planning of the event which provided a pretext for invading first
